Why I Do This

I am a 30-year veteran of computer programming and I've been building commerce-driven websites longer than most people have had an email address.

I've seen a lot of peojects over the years, and to be honest with you, a majority of them have been ill-conceived, poorly-managed or commercially unviable.

Sometimes I've had to "toe the company line" and follow business or technical plans I wasn't super happy about.  But by working "pro-bono" in a personal and direct capacity I can be a great deal more candid and flexible with my advice!

These days I work for a large ecommerce system integrator specializing in a variety of platforms and technologies that gives me the ability to offer people the flexible solutions they really need. If it turns out that I can help you in some commercial capacity that's great, but I'm also happy just to provide free guidance or to make a referral to someone that has specific knowledge in your area of need. After 30 years I have many friends across the entire ecommerce landscape!

So if you have questions regarding online commerce, whether they be general or specific, give me a call and let's see if I can help!

Full Disclosure:  I Prefer Magento!

Once you pass a certain threshold (perhaps seven-figure annual revenue or so?) I feel Magento is probably the best balance for flexibility, scalability and value on most projects.  I tend to measure other solutions against a Magento baseline to support decisions to use a competing technology.

Although I have worked on a wide range of platforms and technologies, these days I prefer Magento for most scenarios where the growth strategy requires more flexibility or control than many SMB solutions.

Of course, requirements are key and nobody can make such a recommendation without knowing the rest of the story. When selecting a platform we'll be sure to discuss the rest of your technology stack, how you operate and who you connect with.  The answers to most technology questions start of with the phrase "it depends!"

I am happy to recommend other products and solutions. Sometimes Magento is too much for a company at a certain growth stage, and perhaps something like Shopify or Big Commerce is more appropriate.

Even though Magento is well-capable as an enterprise solution, sometimes an offering like Hybris or XXXX can deliver more proven capabilities in certain scenarios.  I believe in matching requirements to platforms, not the other way around.  Let's hear what you have going on and I'll be sure to keep an open mind!

My Magic Abilties

OK, ecommerce architecture isn't magic.  It's really just knowing the moving parts of the system really well combined with a career-full of old-school business principles based on understanding value.

Nailing Requirements

Architects connection business and technology using requirements as their guide. This mixture of art and science relies not on prediction with a "crystal ball" but a keen intuition and a proven process of steering projects towards success.

Keeping Things Simple

Most shops allow projects to become complex or bloated without considering the alternatives in the bogger picture.  Simple architecture is more stable and performant with lower operational costs.  No extra points for writing the most code!

Doing Hard Parts First

Seeing a system for the first time late in a project results in having to "pull and ace out of your sleeve" on launch day. Proving solutions in the beginning can accelerate sucess with more frequent feedback cycles and a higher degree of accuracy.
