Greetings friends, I wanted to reach out to you to discuss how our business lives are changing amidst a global pandemic such as the one we are seeing right now with coronavirus and COVID-19. As we are all painfully aware, commerce is changing both drastically and abruptly which is impacting the global economy like we’ve never seen in our lifetimes. Such instant and far-reaching change has the power to ruin our economy and set people’s standard of life back a decade or more. In times like these it is hard to see that new opportunities are also created, especially when the pain is still fresh and we’re still trying to assess how bad the damage is.
It is also difficult to see how retooling our business in reaction to this pandemic can pay off quickly enough to be feasible. After all, we’re hoping that things will go back to normal in a month or two and we can resume doing everything as we had done before. If you believe that this is likely, then you might also think a drastic change in your business would be throw-away work.
If that were our story it would actually be a wonderful case, wouldn’t it? How great would it be to see people shopping in malls and eating in restaurants only two or three months after the initial outbreak, no longer worried about the spectre of a mysterious disease invading our lives again! But as I often tell my clients, “hope is not a strategy” and we shouldn’t hang our hats on a rapid return to normal regardless of our politicians pacifying us with optimistic recovery timeframes.
Through a mix of philosophy and logic I’d like to express to you the reasons why we simply cannot “wait it out” to resume our lives as normal. I’ll admit to going on somewhat of a long-winded tangent to provide the foundation, but if you’ll bear with me I promise to bring it all back to sound commerce advice that you can benefit from immediately.
